First Week of School and She & Him

Four days into the semester and i can already tell that this semester is going to probably be my busiest one yet! I'm taking 15 credit hours this semester in the hopes i can get 90 percent of my core classes done this semester. Then i can graduate in the spring while taking a few classes on the side and transfer to a University. I'm thinking of the U, Weber State, Byu-i, and Utah State right now. They all have good programs in my field of communications (my major). Before I can start thinking about graduation and transferring I have to survive the semester first! I'm taking biology, math 1010, us economic history, body strength and conditioning, and intercultural communications.

Seems like a full schedule right? Wrong!..for some reason slcc has decided to start doing a program called e-portfolios which we're suppose to use to turn in an assignment from each of our respective general study classes and compile them into a school resume of sorts. Having no idea how to make an e-portfolio I decided to take a class to help me out. So instead of 5 classes this semester I have to take 6 :(. Lucky for me the e-portfolio class is only 4 weeks of the semester so hopefully I'll be done with it before any of my other classes start to crank up the assignments/projects. Overall I have to say I'm not as intimidated as I thought I would be this semester. It could be the fact that alot of my classes are spread out enough that i can catch up on my homework and reading without having to worry about juggling it all inbetween my shifts at work...or maybe Its the idea i can see the light at the end of the tunnel! Finally figuring out what I want to do in life is definetly liberating to my spirit and my mind. My teachers are all really cool too which is a first (every semester i seem to get one or two who can't speak english or just started teaching and have no idea how the class works!!). Although I have to say my biology teacher is probably the most interesting of all of my teachers. He is older so maybe that is why he seems to just love to be very....whats the word....stubborn, grumpy, strict? I dunno exactly how to describe him but he seems to always have a smile on his face expecially today when he gave us an extra credit assignment and told us if we don't turn it in when he wants it he won't accept it because "I'm on a deadline". Also during our lecture on the theory of evolution he actually used the words stupid and idiotic to describe peoples theories on evolution they had hundreds of years ago. Haha I guess when you get older you just stop caring about being nice and just tell it how you see it. I'll be sure to update on how that and all of my other classes go throughout the rest of the semester.
Inbetween all of my classes I did get the chance to make it to a concert on friday! I'm a pretty big music fan as you will all soon figure out and I've been to enough concerts to lose count, but I always try to go to one because they're just so much fun expecially when the crowd is energetic and gets really into it. When I got thursday off and realized that the twilight concert series was having a FREE show I couldn't resist going!! It didn't hurt that the band that was playing was She & Him which is a indie band that i just love. I'll be sure to post a song of theirs on here. So decided I was going to go and I ended up going with my good friend Heather from work and her boyfriend. Unfortunately the concert didn't go as well as I had hoped...You see the Twilight concert series took place at pioneer park in slc this year. For those who  don't know Salt Lake City pioneer park is in a not so great part of town. Most of the time when I drive by there you can see dozens of homeless people sleeping in the park.

Well you can imagine why the concert didn't go as well as i'd hoped. Though the park was filled to capacity with over 50,000 people (at least thats what they announced at the concert) There were alot of shady people there that seemed to just go for the free concert and get wasted on beer and pot. The sea of people was insane and I felt clostraphobic...not to mention after we left i couldn't get the smell of pot and beer off me (oh and two people were so drunk they literally fell on me which didn't make me too happy). Although She & Him rocked the park off and played a great set there were very few people getting into the music. Without a doubt this made me the most bummed. I think if you go to concerts you need to get into it. Rock out, dance, you know do something! Otherwise you end up looking like an uptight hipster too cool to enjoy yourself. If I wanted to just sit and watch a concert i could go home and watch a dvd. I think the whole experience of a concert is singing along and rocking out (no matter how awful you are at doing so). But I really can't say the whole night was bad because I got to hang out with good friends and the tunes were good. I just hope that in the future the promoters try to keep a more civil enviorment for a free concert in which both kids and adults attend. Here are some pictures too. Fyi if you say, Hey that looks like Zoey Deshanel from Elf, Yes man, and 500 days of summer your right!!! She is the She in She & Him. Wow I hope that made sense!

Just keep swimming just keep swimming....

School starts tomorrow....these words can't help but put fear in my heart and make my stomach turn. I will freely admit to loving to learn new things expecially when it comes to my major in communications, but i can't help but feeling a little intimidated by my schedule. I'm taking 7 classes this semester so I'm looking to be swimming in deep school work for awhile. As I ponder these things i can't help but feel a bit optomistic regardless of the situation.

My parents have always tried to drill the idea in my head you need to "roll with the punches." If you fall then you need to get back u. Never give up never surrender (actually i think this is from a movie). Its advice i've tried to take to heart (though i don't always succeed). I've also been finding solace in one of my favorite scriptures in philipians 4:13 "I can do all things through christ which strengthen me". As many of you know I'm a music enthusiast so in times like this I also look for a song that can help me relate or deal with a paticular problem. The song i chose today is from one of my all time favorite bands' Jack's Mannequin.
We can get into more about Andrew Mcmahons awesome band later, but i just wanted to share this song because it means alot to me. It's got such a good message whenever I get discouraged I just put it on my ipod and listen to it again and again. I'm going to post the lyrics too. Hearing this song reminds me that if I keep my head above I can swim through these uncertain waters...(sorry if that sounded cheesy)

You've gotta swim, swim for your life
Swim for the music that saves you

When you're not so sure you'll survive
You gotta swim and swim when it hurts

The whole world is watching

You haven't come this far to fall off the earth
The currents will pull you away from your love

Just keep your head above
I found a tidal wave begging to tear down the dawn

Memories like bullets, they fired at me from a gun

Crack in the armor, yeah

I swim for brighter days despite the absence of sun

Choking on salt water

I'm not giving in, I swim

You gotta swim for nights that won't end

Swim for your family as your lovers, your sisters

And brothers, and friends

Yeah, you gotta swim through wars without cause

Swim for the lost politicians

Who don't see their greed as a flaw

The currents will pull us away from our love

Just keep your head above

I found a tidal wave begging to tear down the dawn

Memories like bullets, they fired at me from a gun

A crack in the armor, yeah

I swim for brighter days despite of the absence of sun

Choking on salt water

I'm not giving in, well, I'm not giving in, I swim

You gotta swim, swim in the dark

There's no shame in drifting

Feel the tide shifting and wait for the spark

Yeah, you gotta swim, don't let yourself sink

Just find the horizon

I promise you, it's not as far as you think

The currents will drag us away from our love

Just keep your head above

Just keep your head above, swim

Just keep your head above, swim, swim

Just keep your head above, swim

My New Phone

Ok so basically i've procrastinated writing on my blog for the primary reason i got a new phone..i know kinda dumb huh? Well you see its not just any phone....I bought a Droid 2 on Wednesday
Heres a picture of it now those that know about droids know that you can do pretty much everything with them. download mp3s, make ringtones, shop online, add facebook contatcts to your phone, even stream your itunes music onto your phone!!! Its probably the coolest I've literally spent hours just playing around with it and trying out all the new stuff..but anyway thats not the main reason for this blog. No, you see when i went down to get the phone i forgot to have my old contacts transferred over to my Droid 2. So i went down on thursday to have the folks at verizon do it for me. I figured, "hey, how long can it take?" I decided to go at around 12:30 so it would leave me plenty of time before i head to work at 4. Well it ended up being a disaster. Instead of taking 15 minutes like i had hoped i spent 2 and 1/2 hours at the verizon store! No i kid you not It took that long to get my contacts from my old phone. They had no idea why it took so long. Their only guess was that my old phone had a glitch that kept the data from transferrring. In any event we ended up using my old phone's bluetooth to transfer my contacts to my new one. By the time I left the verizon store it was already 2:30 which meant I had an hour to go home and get ready for work :( so much for relaxing before work!!! >:( I do have to say that despite that rocky start my phone has become part of me. Hopefully when school starts next week I will have enough will power to put it down!!

MY FIRST BLOG POST!!!

Well here goes nothing! :) I gotta say this is kind of a long time coming...I've been thinking of starting a blog months ago when i realized that alot of my friends had been doing them. Seeing how nice their's are makes me feel a little intimidated starting my own (the closest i've come is through facebook notes) so i'm diving headfirst and seeing whether i sink or swim. Another reason for doing this is I've been trying to keep a journal for so long but I always find myself going back to my computer because my more comfortable with a keyboard then I am with a pen. So I hope you enjoy my insights and everyday life. If not than tough luck cause you already read it! hahaha :) just kidding.

So a little about me...My name is Tyler Lambert (if you didn't know that then why are you on my blog!?) I live in Centerville, Utah. I just turned 24 years old and I live with my family right now as I'm going to school. I am one of two siblings, my sister Kjarinda is the youngest and she is going to Utah State right now looking to go into nursing. She just turned 20 in june (which makes me the oldest if you couldn't do the math). I'm a huge fan of the arts and music expecially. I've probably seen over 50 bands live (don't believe me? I can name them all! :) I would be incocolible without my trusty ipod in hand. I'm pretty much open to doing anything once. Life is too short to regret not trying something new everyday. Hopefully this blog can be a nice update for my friends on whats going on in my life and an outlet for my thoughts. Hope to be posting again soon :)
